The ORCID API supports searching the ORCID registry using the popular SOLR query syntax. The search API allows more complex queries than our search user interface, and supports machine readable formats such as CSV, XML and JSON.
Search can be helpful to find out how many researchers at your organization have ORCID iDs. For example you can find people affiliated with your organization by searching for a particular Organization ID or organization name.
We generally discourage organizations from adding ORCID iDs to their systems based on a search for researchers by name – it is far better to collect authenticated iDs when using ORCID as a sign in method.
