ORCID for Consortia: Onboarding Checklist for New ORCID Consortia
This document is a quick guide to what your organization—and ORCID—is responsible for during and after the process of forming a new ORCID consortia.
Before signing the consortium lead agreement
The following criteria must be met before a consortium lead agreement can be finalized and the discount applied.
Consortium Lead Organization
Identify the Consortium Lead Organization and main contact
Determine how the consortium will be funded, including cost recovery model for consortium support staff
Draft policy for consortium, outlining goals of the consortium, membership criteria, governance principles, and how progress will be monitored (to be shared with consortium candidate by ORCID during discussions)
Put out a call for participation in the consortium
Determine whether implementation will be via a central platform, in a distributed manner, or in a mixed central/local approach
If needed, finalize job description and put out a hiring call for community management staff (to be shared with consortium candidate by ORCID during discussions)
Develop a web page with information about the Consortium Lead Organization, support contact, and basic information about ORCID best practices
During the process of setting up a new consortium, ORCID staff offers support in numerous ways:
- Answers questions from Consortium Lead Organizations
- Support discussions about consortium policy
- Provide introductions to other Consortium Lead Organizations
- Provide basic training and mentorship to staff of the Consortium Lead Organization
- Provide access to member self-management pages to collect information about consortium members
After signing the consortium lead agreement
Fees for the consortium are due within 60 days of signing the agreement. In addition,
the following criteria must be met within three months of the agreement being signed.
Consortium Lead Organization
Hire and onboard community management staff
Relevant staff from the Consortium Lead Organization will participate in ORCID onboarding sessions
Support staff complete ORCID training and homework
Make initial contact with all consortium members, including instructions on how to contact support staff and communicate with other consortium members
Complete entry of details about consortium member organizations in the ORCID member database
Launch your consortium!
- Provide in-depth training for community management staff, review homework, and provide feedback
- Introduce consortium members to relevant ORCID staff and resources
- Support official consortium launch
