Spring 2014 ORCID Outreach Meeting

Integrating ORCID identifiers at universities and research institutions

21-22 May 2014, Chicago, Illinois, USA

ORCID hosted its biannual Outreach Meeting on May 21-22, 2014 at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Links to slides and webinar presentations from the event are provided below. You may also view the posters from the event.

We also hosted a Codefest for developers, concurrent with the Outreach Meeting.

This event featured community sharing of integration best practices by universities and professional societies, particularly highlighting the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation-funded Adoption and Integration Program projects.

ORCID integration into researcher information systems / video

The ORCID identifier has been integrated into numerous researcher information system platforms available to the research community, providing the opportunity for improved data through disambiguation and reducing the time-consuming process of maintaining up-to-date records for both individuals and organizations. This session will feature a discussion of integration points, policy issues, data flow between systems, researcher participation, discovered opportunities, improved metrics and reporting, and demonstrations by universities and vendors.

This session will offer a discussion of integration points, policy issues, data flow between systems, researcher participation, discovered opportunities, and demonstrations by universities, research organizations, and vendors.

ORCID at professional associations

For scholarly societies, ORCID can help tie together siloed internal systems, including manuscript submission, membership management, author and reviewer databases, and conferences, improving an organizations ability to serve its members. This session will offer a discussion of integration points, policy issues, data flow between systems, researcher participation, discovered opportunities, and demonstrations by societies and vendors.

Institutional culture varies between universities and research institutes, necessitating a locally relevant approach to integration of ORCID identifiers.  In this session, institutions will share information about their decision-making, business planning, and strategies for communications and adoption within their communities.

10:45     Best practices in the creation of ORCID identifiers for faculty, staff, and students: technical integration / video

Research organizations are creating ORCID iDs and integrating them into a variety of systems, from personnel databases, to directories, repositories, and university presses. In this session, organizations will share information and strategies on technical aspects of working with ORCID APIs, strategies for modifying internal systems to capture and store ORCID iDs, and interactions with other identifiers.

Adoption and Integration Program

Funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the ORCID Adoption and Integration Program provides external funding for universities and science and social science professional associations to integrate ORCID identifiers, supports the collaborative elicitation and documentation of use cases and open source code, and establishes a collaborative venue for disseminating best practices. Nine A&I Project Partners will be sharing about their integration projects at the Outreach Meeting.
