The Member API can be used to access public data on ORCID records without requiring the individual researcher / record’s holder to grant permission. It is intended for read-only access cases in which data needs exceed our Anonymous or Public API quotas or go against our Terms of Service for the Public API, which limits usage to not-for-profit and non-revenue-generating cases. It also must comply with ORCID’s privacy policies and membership terms.
Your organization must:
- Be an ORCID member.
- Have production Member API credentials issued by ORCID.
- Use those credentials to get a /read-public access token.
Common read-only use cases include:
- Synchronizing public data for internal systems or research reporting.
- Verifying affiliations or works in ORCID records.
- Supporting research assessment and open science infrastructure.
- Building ‘expert finder’ services based on researchers’ publicly available data
Depending on your use case our different data sync options might work better for your integration. Please contact us if you would like to talk through your integration plans.
