ORCID recently hosted events to showcase both our commitment to research integrity as well as the benefits of integrating ORCID with national systems. If you weren’t able to catch them live, you can watch them now on demand and download the presentations to learn about the topics that matter to you the most.
Research Integrity: ORCID’s Privacy Policy
At ORCID, we recognize that upholding research integrity is a global challenge that demands community-driven solutions. In this new webinar series we feature thought leaders and experts in research, cybersecurity, and privacy share their insights on emerging trends and innovative solutions.
Our most recent session focused inward; featuring Ellen Paterson, ORCID’s Data Protection Officer to share both ORCID’s philosophy related to data privacy, as well as some details about our practices. Ellen covered recent updates to ORCID’s Privacy Policy, provided insights into her role as Data Protection Officer, and engaged in a Q&A session on key issues surrounding data privacy. The topics covered include:
- ORCID and Privacy: some history
- The Data Protection Officer role
- Developing the ORCID Privacy Framework
- Understanding the Privacy Policies and Practices
- Enhancing Privacy Policy and Data Protection
- Global Legalization and Fraudulent Records
- Choice, Control, and Data Privacy
We received great feedback from participants, with many noting in the post-event survey that the webinar was “very” informative. We were also pleased that the session seemed to inspire some from the audience to look more into their own organization’s privacy policies. Watch the recording and download the presentation.
ORCID in the Wild featuring Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia
PTCRIS—Portugal’s national research information system—has championed the principle, “Register once, reuse always,” streamlining research management for Portuguese researchers. While ORCID adoption isn’t mandatory, it has become highly encouraged due to its numerous benefits for researchers. By integrating ORCID with national systems like CIÊNCIAVITAE, PTCRIS has significantly reduced the administrative burden on researchers, saving them valuable time and effort.
Through PTCRISync, researchers no longer need to manually update their profiles across various platforms. New projects or publications added to ORCID are automatically synced with CIÊNCIAVITAE, ensuring data accuracy without redundant effort. This integration has saved over 154 hours of administrative work, allowing researchers to dedicate more time to their research.
This session explored how this seamless integration is reshaping the research landscape and how ORCID is becoming an indispensable tool in simplifying academic workflows.
