Global Participation Fund Outcomes
The Global Participation Fund supports the growth of projects accross the Global South that would otherwise not have the means to get started. Find out below how the fund has been used to enrich the academic landscape.
The Global Participation Fund overview
Since 2022, the GPF has helped increase ORCID Communities of Practice across the Global South through grants for Community Development and Technical Integrations. Together, these grants have supported local partners in growing ORCID adoption in Focus Community regions while supporting resource development for the ORCID consortia that serve those regions. Additionally, funding has also supported software development to build and update ORCID integrations in open-source systems and create relevant documentation. Below are highlights of our broader outcomes.

Organization:

Africa Bioethics Network (ABN)
Region: Africa
“The African Bioethics Network’s ORCID Community of Practice (CoP) project made strong progress in building awareness and technical capacity for ORCID adoption across 12 Sub-Saharan African countries, engaging over 1,000 stakeholders and producing key strategic documents, including a Landscape Analysis, Mainstreaming Roadmap, and Sustainability Plan.”
Organization:

Regional Maritime University (RMU)
Region: Ghana
The ORCID adoption project in Ghana demonstrated impressive national reach, with engagement across all 16 regions of the country through 15 events, including 11 in-person workshops and four webinars. A diverse set of stakeholders participated, including librarians, faculty, researchers, research managers, and students, which enhanced cross-functional adoption. Institutional partnerships were effectively leveraged, particularly through CARLIGH and GLA, whose members have become ongoing ORCID advocates.

Organization: Samarkand Branch of Tashkent University of Economics
Region: Uzbekistan
“The Uzbekistan ORCID outreach project successfully advanced research visibility and collaboration by exceeding its goals and establishing a strong national presence. It engaged the majority of the country’s higher education institutions and onboarded far more researchers than originally targeted. The project overcame language and technical barriers by developing localized resources and improving institutional representation in global systems. It also promoted the integration of ORCID into academic workflows, such as conference submissions and journal policies.”
