As we kick off our third year, and round the end of 2014, we are spending some time focusing on highly-requested items from our iDeas Forum. This forum provides a venue for us to hear suggestions from the very engaged ORCID community. While there are many more great ideas than we have the resources to tackle, we think you’ll be excited by the items that we’ve taken on.
This post describes the first of the end-of-the-year goodies that we are releasing today. Check in often (or subscribe to our blog!) to be the first to hear of the several other items that we’ll be releasing before the first of the year.
Import from BibTeX
While called by several different names, the ability to add things to your ORCID Record using a file of BibTeX has been requested by many – it received over 570 votes over several ORCID community iDeas!
This functionality allows you to import metadata about works from tools like Google Scholar by exporting the information into a BibTeX file, and then adding it to your ORCID record by uploading the file. To use it:
- Sign in to orcid.org
- On the my-orcid page, scroll down to the “Works” section
- Click the “Link BibTeX” button and follow the instructions
You can find full instructions on the ORCID knowledge base.
Open source code contributions welcome!
Do you code? Know a lot about BibTeX? Please consider making an open source contribution to our BibTeX parser to make it better. Alternatively, feel free to fork the code to make your own creations. The code can found in our GitHub repo bibtexParseJs.
See you next week for the next end-of-the-year goodie!
