Bethesda, MD, USA — 16 July, 2026— ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) and the CSTR Identification Platform, based in Beijing, China, are pleased to announce a new strategic partnership aimed at strengthening the adoption of persistent identifiers (PIDs) throughout the research data lifecycle and enhancing the visibility of research systems globally.
ORCID and CSTR share a common goal to improve the transparency and reliability of research information. Under a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), both organizations will collaborate to promote the interoperability of ORCID identifiers and CSTR identification system, focusing particularly on research infrastructures user communities.
A Collaboration for Global Connectivity
The MOU establishes a framework for dialogue and cooperation on several key initiatives, including:
- Deepening Exchanges: Facilitating technical and strategic discussions between ORCID and CSTR
- Promoting Interoperability: Building support for information connectivity between identifier systems
- Regular Coordination: Establishing formal mechanisms to advance mutual cooperation and shared best practices
“This signing deepens the strategic cooperation between ORCID and CSTR. We will focus on PIDs interoperability and working together to strengthen the global academic infrastructure ecosystem,” said ZHOU Yuanchun, Director of Computer Network Information Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
“Strategic partnerships with important virtual open science infrastructure and IT service providers are vital to ORCID’s mission,” said Chris Shillum, Executive Director of ORCID. “By working together to build support for information connectivity, we can ensure that research user communities of both sides benefit from increased visibility and reduced cost burdens for open science cooperation.”
About CSTR
CSTR Identification Platform(https://www.cstr.cn/en), supported by the Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) of theChinese Academy of Sciences, was established in 2016 based on the National Standard GB/T 32843—2016 (“Science and technology resource identification”) CSTR provides unique identification service for global scientific data, papers, large research infrastructures, scientific institutions, researchers, scientific instruments, patents and other science and technology resources, to realize the rapid positioning and acquisition worldwide.
About ORCID
ORCID (http://orcid.org) is an global, open and interdisciplinary community-based effort to provide an identifier for individuals to use with their name as they engage in research and innovation activities, as well as the tools that enable transparent and trustworthy connections between researchers, their contributions, and affiliations. ORCID’s vision is a world where all who participate in research and innovation, from imagining to building and managing, are uniquely identified and connected to their contributions across disciplines, borders, and time. ORCID seeks to reduce administrative burden for researchers and help organizations understand the impact of the research they are facilitating or funding.
